Lately I have been all about finding ways to create my own beauty products at home. Products that would cost a few hundred rand in shops, I can make at home for much less. One of the products I have been researching is Rose Water. Rose water has so many benefits for your face and body and is made for a few ingredients you probably already have at home. There are no preservatives and is chemical free.

Benefits of Rose Water

Rose water originated from Ancient Greek times where the Greeks where known to create their own beauty products. Roses have always been known for their medicinal uses and their fragrances. There are many benefits to rose water.

* Full of anti-oxidants, vitamins and minerals

Roses contain many different antioxidants, vitamins and minerals that are good for face and body. They contain Vitamin C, which helps reduce sun spots and pigmentation as well as helps with collagen reproduction. It is also great for inflamed and irritated skin. Vitamin A helps exfoliate skin, giving you an even skin tone. It also helps reduce the signs of rosacea and reduces sebum production which causes pimples and acne.

Roses also contain the flavonoid Quercetin which has many amazing benefits for the skin. It is an anti-inflammatory which helps with inflammation and helps to heal the skin. It also neutralizes the free radicals that causes aging.

* Skin benefits

What will it do for my skin? Rose water can be used for every skin type no matter if you have oily skin or dry skin. If you have oily skin, rose water will help balance the oil production of your skin, thus preventing acne and pimples.

For mature and dry skin, rose water will soften your skin and give it a beautiful glow. As it has the rose oil in, it will lightly moisturize your skin.

For normal skin tones, rose water will give your skin a beautiful glow while maintaining your skins natural pH levels.

Rose water also soothes and cools inflamed skin from sun burn.

Lets look at the many different ways rose water can be used. Rose water is suitable for everyone, even people with sensitive skin.

On hot days it can feel like our makeup is moving and sliding off your faces. Store rose water in a little spray bottle and spray on face throughout the day. It will keep your makeup fresh and will also cool and soothe your face.

How to make your own Rose Water

Rose water is so simple to make that anyone can make it. A few simple ingredients is all you need.

* Roses (Which ever colour you like)

* 1L Distilled Water

* Pots

* Spray bottle

* You will first need to take all the petals off the roses.

* In a pot, add your distilled water and the petals from your roses. You will need to place the stove on the lowest heat and let the water come to a simmer.

* You will then let the petals simmer away. Remember you don't want the water to boil as you will burn the leaves and ultimately waste the whole lot. The simmering can take anywhere from 1 -2 hours.

* You will know the rose water is ready when the petals have lost all their colour. You will then need to strain the petals in a coriander and leave the water to cool down.

* Once the water is cooled, you can decant the water into your spray bottles.

* Your rose water is then ready for use.

PS. You can add essential oils to the water once it has cooled. This will give you more healing properties.
